May，1956：“Wuhan Branch Library of Chinese Academy of Sciences” was established.

January，1961： It was renamed to “Wuhan Library of Southern-central Branch Library of Chinese Academy of Sciences.”

October 6th，1962：It was renamed to “Southern-central Branch Library of Chinese Academy of Sciences.”

1963：“Wuhan Library of Southern-central Branch of Chinese Academy of Sciences” was reused.

March 1st，1971： Due to Amalgamated with Scientific and Technological Information Research Institute of Hubei, it was renamed to” Hubei Information Research Institute of Science and Technology.”

January 1st，1979： Resumed rebuilding formally, it was named to “Wuhan Branch Library of Chinese Academy of Sciences.”

May 5th，1981：It was renamed to "Wuhan Library of Chinese Academy of Sciences. "

April 8th，1989： It was renamed to “Wuhan Documentation and Information Centre of Chinese Academy of Sciences”while the name of “Wuhan Library of Chinese Academy of Sciences” remained in use.

June 10th，2002： the centre entered experimental unit of the knowledge innovation project of the Chinese Academy of Sciences wholly.

March 18th， 2006： According to the decision of the reform of the documentation and information system of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, it was renamed to “Wuhan Branch Library of National Science Library of the Chinese Academy of Sciences”, and the name “Sciences and Scientific Library of Hubei and Wuhan Documentation” and “Information Center of Chinese Academy of Sciences” is kept for use until the new name is approved.
